Coming late June.  The program can be found [[Meetings/Second/Program|here]].

Second Meeting: July 8-9, 2009 (Los Alamos, NM)

Organization

Program

  • The program can be found here.

Registration

  • Registration is now open. Please register here before June 23rd.

Travel

  • The meeting will be held at the Fuller Lodge, located at:

    Fuller Lodge
    2132 Central Ave
    Los Alamos, NM 87544
    (505) 662-9331

The nearest airport is Albuquerque, NM, which is approximately 100 miles away from Los Alamos.

Driving Directions to Hotel and Fuller Lodge from Albuquerque:

    1. From ABQ, drive north for 54 miles on I-25 towards Santa Fe.
    2. You will need to either drive through or around Santa Fe to pick up US 84/285. There are two choices: take the relief route (NM-599, Veteran's Memorial drive) around Santa Fe or take Saint Francis Street through Santa Fe. The NM-599 exit is currently under construction, but there are detour signs using Cerillos Road exit that can be followed. If you choose to drive through Santa Fe, you will need to drive further on I-25 and take the Saint Francis exit toward the plaza. Saint Francis connects to 84/285 after around 3-5 miles.
    3. From 84/285, take the exit to Hwy 502, just past Pojoaque Pueblo, which is 14 miles after where the Relief Route connects to 84/285.
    4. Stay on 502 for 17 miles into Los Alamos. You will pass a small airport and a residential area on your right. The road will fork; bear to your right, which will put you on Central Avenue. At the first stoplight, continue to drive straight on Central through a commercial area. You will pass the Post Office on your right and Starbucks Coffee on your left. Just past the Post Office, still looking right, you will see a grassy park with a large vertical log structure. The building is Fuller Lodge. On your left, across the park is the hotel. Here is a map of downtown, indicating where Fuller Lodge and the Holiday Inn are in relation to each other. Wednesday night's dinner will be at the Central Ave Grill, which is located on Central Ave next to Starbucks.

    Survival Tips:

    1. Los Alamos is in the high desert. Drinking a lot of water will help you adjust to the altitude and keep you from dehydrating in the low humidity.
    2. Wear sunscreen and a hat.
    3. If you are not adjusted to altitude, be careful exercising. A good rule of thumb is to walk uphill and run downhill.
    4. Wildlife abounds in the Los Alamos area in both populated and unpopulated areas. Be careful driving at night, as animals will frequently cross the highway. Daylight sightings of coyotes and deer have been common this year. They are not any harm to humans, but have been the cause of some car wrecks. Do not approach any wildlife you see.
    5. Do not pick up or kick anything shiny you find on the ground. While it is unusual to find unexploded munitions on downtown mesa, there are cases where they have been found near the hiking trails around town.

Hotel

  • Accommodations can be made at the Holiday Inn Express Los Alamos, across the park from the Fuller Lodge, located at:

    Holiday Inn Express Los Alamos
    2455 Trinity Drive
    Los Alamos, NM 87544
    505-661-1110

A rate of $99/night has been arranged for CCC meeting participants that register and reserve before June 23rd. Please call the hotel and say that you are reserving for the CCC meeting to get one of the reserved rooms at the special rate.

    Notes:

    1. As the hotel and Fuller Lodge are across the park from each other (less than 0.1 mile), participants can walk from the hotel to Fuller each day. If this scenario does not work for you, please talk to Heather.
    2. As the hotel provides a continental breakfast, the workshop will only provide coffee and tea in the morning.
    3. A second Holiday Inn Express is being built on the edge of town. Do not try to check into that hotel, as it is only made out of plywood currently.

Confirmed Participants

  • Coming soon.
